Biodiversity Conservation

Biological diversity is closely linked to the livelihoods and economic development of most of the people, and relates to agricultural productivity and sustainability, human health and nutrition, indigenous knowledge, gender equality, building materials, water resources, and the aesthetic and cultural well being of the society. But, low levels of public awareness and participation, high population pressures and prevailing poverty, weak institutional, administrative, planning and management capacity, lack of integrated land and water use planning, inadequate data and information management has been identified as major constraint of biodiversity conservation.

NERI has special expertise on developing biodiversity conservation and management plan, promoting participatory conservation approach, sensitizing communities and institutions for the promotion of conservation and biodiversity based tourism, producing outreach materials for conservation promotional activities.
